Welcome, New Scions! Sure is Cold...

Stop Dragon My Heart Around
New arrivals:
The dream you wake from is an unsettling one that feels like a memory. It sits out of place and too far forward in your mind, yet feels as real and clear as any other could be. It's the shadow of a massive creature blocking out the sun, skyline, or similar entity. A roar that shakes you to the core and and a feeling of dread and loss weighing heavy on you. Whatever the feeling or vision that comes across, it brings with it a sense that your world is no more.

A voice, reassuring and almost motherly in nature urges you gently to wake from your sleep. Rise from the ashes, little one, The voice calls in a whisper of wind and crackling fire, There is need of you, yet.

As the voice fades and the world of the waking returns to you, you are greeted with the sounds of faint bustling and the bounce of wooden wheels on stone or the sight of Upper Nuren's winding streets and open squares. A cloud passes by slowly near one of the stone pathway ledges and the sounds of nearby Touched and Remnants at work or leisure filter through the calm, cool air.

Whatever you had previously been wearing or carrying has been replaced. You might now find yourself garbed in a cloth tunic, pants or shorts, robe, dress or skirt, and sandals or boots if you wore clothing. A sash around your shoulders or a belt at your waist contains a small but weighted purse of gold coins, enough to acquire some materials, new clothing or food from the market and craftsmen in the city.

Current Scions:
With the temperature and weather taking such a drastic turn into winter, there are some acclimation issues to be expected. There is the normal scramble for warmer clothing, heating charms, and making certain the stores are full enough for the winter.

However, it seems an illness is also spreading with the cooler weather. The citizens of Nuren assure the Scions this is nothing new and nothing to concern themselves over, however it can be noted that this particular strain of the cold seems to be targeting Scions. It's possible they are more susceptible because of their newness to Osaaru and they haven't built up an immunity. There are a few Scholars that suggest this particular bug is drawn in by magic.

Infected Scions may experience a spike in magic that is somewhat uncontrollable. Ever sneezed flames? Or whatever your element is. It may be advisable to take cover in your caves to avoid causing damage to those around you. Or don't. Whatever you do, the illness should pass in a few days.
The Heart of Nuren
After waking, a pull starts from within your chest, growing stronger with each passing moment until it becomes the only focus. It tugs insistently once, then twice. A need to follow the pull curls around and through you, urging you toward a wide and torch lit staircase that leads down into the heart of the mountain. The steps are wide and sturdy, and the further down them you travel, the clearer the call becomes until you can almost hear it.

At the bottom of the steps, the large cavern beneath the city is revealed. The floor beneath your feet is warm to the touch, and the magic in the air calms your mind and fills you with a strange sense of safety and peace. No magic or harm can be done within the cavern. The cavern's floor is covered in circles of runes carved into the stone that surround small depressions in varying sizes, from a coffee cup's rim to that of a small circular table. Some of the depressions contain dormant dragon eggs of various colors, shapes and sizes. The runes surrounding them glow faintly with a magical light. Only the Scion who is bonded to the dragon within the egg can pass the runes.
Upper and Lower Nuren
Once you emerge from the cavern, the strange spell that fell over you fades. The bond between you and your egg or hatchling remains but your command of your own decisions and actions return and you are now free to explore, question and move about.

The streets of Upper Nuren are sparsely populated with Remnants, Touched and other scions with their eggs or dragons. Questioning any of the citizens leads to a variety of answers. You are a Scion of the Great Beasts. You were brought to the city from the ashes of time and space by the Great Phoenix known as Benra and the Great Serpent known as Mouros.

Pressing for more information will reveal that there are five Great Beasts. They are Benra the Phoenix, Chelba the Stone Giant, Renzu the Griffin, Mouros the Serpent, and Lysheu the Chimera. They are said to represent Mortality, Order, Knowledge, Time, and Chaos.

You are in the great Mountain City known as Nuren, and its people are the last remaining vestige of civilization on this wild and dangerous planet. The Touched and the Remnants share an alliance and work together to keep the city protected and its citizens alive and fed. According to these citizens of Nuren, you are here to help them defend the city, unite the remaining races and restore balance to the elements.

Soon after the first Scions awake, the city begins to buzz with the news and gossip that more scions have arrived. The curious and braver citizens make their way to Upper Nuren to get a look, and the rumors spread like wildfire through the city that Benra has come again.
Outer Nuren
Although those rumors make their way to Outer Nuren, the citizens there show far less interest in making the long trek up to Upper Nuren. With winter finally setting in properly, the temperature is warmer near the water and the citizens of Outer Nuren would rather preserve their heat than travel up the mountain.

The taverns fill with activity and warmth of those seeking evening entertainment and company. In the markets there is a push of people buying warm winter clothing and wood and charms to warm their persons and abodes. Many very skilled enchanters are taking advantage of the sudden turn in weather and the panicking of procrastinators to move a lot of inventory.
Evening
When night settles on the city, the taverns, inns and squares fill with curious citizens hoping to meet the new Scions or catch a glimpse of the Scions they have already managed to glimpse a few times before. Food and hot drinks are offered freely, as well as blankets to guard against the cool night air.

The night sky fills with beautiful displays of magic from the Fire, Light and Energy Mages, the Osaaru equivalent of fireworks, though far quieter. Several Scholars in bright and colorful robes can be found approaching the new scions and older ones alike, offering to tell them more about the city, Osaaru and the Great Beasts. Mages of similar garb guide scions to the cavern homes, and help where they can in making the scions more comfortable.

Small comforts of food, pillows, decorative crafts and other small tokens are offered to visible Scions by the citizens of Nuren in hopes of earning their favor and friendship.
Notes
Please direct Introduction questions to the Plotting Post Q&A
As a Reminder: Bahemait is not one of the Great Beasts openly discussed or mentioned by the Citizens of Nuren who believe the Great Dragon is little more than an old legend.

We would also like to emphasize that the Spirit energy within every resurrected character is required to use all magic in Osaaru, even that which is brought from their own world. The drain of powerful or excessive use of magic will lead to exhaustion.

Natsumi Kuzuryu | Will match format!

A; New Arrivals

[It's kind of weird, being on the side of new arrivals where she isn't the one fumbling around in clothes that aren't hers with an egg she has no idea what to do with. Weird but nice, something she could get used to. She would much rather be lost as little as possible.

Natsumi doesn't want to treat them like the locals do; treating them like some kind of sideshow excitement, approaching them with more hospitality than strictly necessary, the whole "you're a scion now" shebang. But she did find herself wandering the streets, eyes peeled for them anyway. There are people she's hoping will show up, and others she wants to know are here before they find her.

While her dragon is still on the smaller side, clearly young with the way it's curled up around her shoulders and looking at everyone and everything that passes with wide, curious eyes she's not new herself. And she carries herself as if she knows the place. She won't turn away anyone that needs a little help or direction.]

B; Around Nuren

Eibitsuki-hime, cut it out.

[It's a stern reprimand given to a squeaking, fidgeting dragon who is very clearly tired of the wandering they're doing. The young one spotted something she wanted a few stalls back as they perused the shops in the cliff-side market and hadn't stopped whining about it since.]

I told you I can't afford that. You're going to have to get over it.

[She was determined to teach her companion right after some of the shit her brother was saying about her a little while back. No discipline? Fuck that! She's got more discipline than he and Peko put together. Totally. And she's definitely going to show them.

Except Eibitsuki has a much different idea in mind as she starts to squirm down her scion's arm in an attempt to get down. The blonde carefully pries her off and sets her on the ground, thinking maybe she's just tired of riding around, but it's clear that's not the case as the dragon takes off running.]

H-hey, wait!! Dammit, don't run off like that without me!

[She was so uncoordinated when she hatched a few weeks ago how did she get so fast?? There's a chance that a black dragon will whizz past you, running close to the ground, maybe even slip around your feet in an attempt to lose her scion. Said scion won't be too far behind, offering some apologies as she fails to worm through the crowd as easily...hopefully she manages to go around you rather than run flat into you.]

C; Closed to Cavemates; 12/04 - 12/06

["It's just a cold," they said. "It's nothing to worry about," they said. That was a load of bullshit if she'd ever heard any and no less than an hour into this "cold" she was already regretting not dressing a little more warmly for the season.

This was after freaking out over her symptoms and being worried that maybe she was dying first. Last time she recalled being sick it didn't include parts of her body becoming shadow-like and intangible whenever she sneezed. Nor did coughing come with thick, black smog spilling out every time she opened her mouth. It was extremely disconcerting (and painful, as far as the coughing was concerned.)

She's since gotten over that, however, and has been set up in Fuyuhiko's room (the former heir having set up a hammock for himself in the corner so that she wouldn't be stuck sleeping in her own). Visitors are always welcome it's not like he's got a door to keep them out. And it'd probably do her some good. Most of the time she's just sitting up in his bed, propped up with some pillows and grumbling about how awful magic is. Eibitsuki-hime is laying nearby, just trying to sleep this secondhand fatigue off...]

[Once Natsumi was all situated in his room and one of the spare hammocks set up in the corner for Fuyuhiko, the former heir had headed into the kitchen. This was definitely the weirdest sickness he'd ever seen in his life, and he doesn't have a clue how to actually go about curing it, but surely the old standbys for common colds wouldn't hurt?]

[He'd left Kougetsuren on the bed to keep the girls company, with instructions to keep an eye on them and to start making as much noise as possible to get FUyuhiko's attention if something bad happened. The little white dragon seems to have taken this completely to heart because as soon as Fuyuhiko left the room, he promptly crawled onto Natsumi's chest and began staring her down. He dares you to try and move now. You're stuck here, missy! At least he's nice and warm?]
tookforgranite: into this mess. I gotta get myself out. Plus, don't you only need one kidney? (And I just want you to know I got myself)

[personal profile] tookforgranite 2016-12-05 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
[The way Kougetsuren watched over her like that had her chuckling. Just for a bit before it lead to some coughing, but she's honestly so amused.]

You don't have to watch me so closely, you know.

[Even if that's what he told you to do. It's a little eerie, you know!]

I won't move an inch, okay?

impheired: me look like im always in a bad mood, which is convenient because it’s usually true (Default)

[personal profile] impheired 2016-12-05 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
[Kougetsuren blinks a few times, seemingly considering Natsumi's words. And then, finally, he leans in and nuzzles his velvet face plates against her cheek with a quiet squeak. He guesses she has a point. Sort of. Once that's done, he hops off Natsumi's chest and moves over to Eibitsuki and starts nudging her with his nose.]

[Come on you, move a little closer to your scion. Close enough that you're both in his line of sight and he can lay next to both of you at once.]
tookforgranite: to them. Call them names. Punch them on the shoulder. Murder their families. (Boys like it when youre playfully mean)

[personal profile] tookforgranite 2016-12-05 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
[He doesn't get any verbal thanks from Natsumi for going easy on her, but he does get a smile and some pets while he tries to coax Eibitsuki into moving. The black dragon is not very willing though, immediately starting up with some weak and upset sounding peeps at the bugging. What? Why are you nudging her? She doesn't wanna move, she's happy where she is!!!

Keep nudging her though, she'll move eventually.]

[Fortunately, Saralegui manages to sidestep neatly when the black dragon darts between his feet -- he'd had enough practice when his own was newly hatched and always underfoot, after all. He doesn't, however, manage to dodge the scion in chase, turning back from where he'd been looking after the runaway dragon just in time to see the blonde girl before she collides with him. There's a bit of stumbling backwards, but he manages to catch her by the shoulders before either of them can topple.

Unfortunately, despite being several weeks older, his own dragon is not necessarily more controlled or mature. Shima springs to alertness as the black blur darts past them, and she's quick to give chase herself -- much to Saralegui's exasperation.]

Stop! Don't...ugh.

[Saralegui sighs, seeing his commands go unheeded as Shima scrambles through the crowd, and looks back to the girl and he helps to steady her.]

Forgive me, I didn't see you there.
tookforgranite: now is pretending to chop off everyone's heads when using the paper cutter. (The only thing keeping me calm right)

[personal profile] tookforgranite 2016-12-05 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
[Thank you for avoiding her small companion and for catching her. Really, she does appreciate it, even if she's swearing a little under her breath.]

It's fine, s'not like you had a whole lot of time to spot me. That little shit is gonna be the death of someone at this rate...

[Once she's fully steadied and standing straight again, Saralegui may notice a striking resemblance to someone else he knows. This girl could easily be Fuyuhiko's twin...even right down to having a similar scowl.]

Did you see which way she went? Or...wait, your dragon ran off after her, didn't she? Sorry about that...

[The language throws him more than the uncanny resemblance, really. Ladies where he comes from are generally very reserved and proper -- the ones he has to interact with, anyway, at least to his face. Not that he doesn't note the likeness, observant as he is. But he's also a tactful sort, and so he doesn't comment on it right away, simply filing that information away for the moment.]

It's alright. She's taken to wandering more as she grows. [It's probably good that she's gotten less clingy, anyway. Not that it stops her from accompanying him everywhere, but at least she isn't constantly in his face begging for attention now.] And she's a bit larger, so I imagine she'll be easier to spot than yours...

[Though the little black dragon had certainly been eye-catching. That color...]
tookforgranite: Cuz my right leg looks and feels like if it got hit by shrapnel. (Did I fall on/off the boat yesterday?)

[personal profile] tookforgranite 2016-12-05 08:17 am (UTC)(link)
[Being reserved and proper are for ladies who aren't in the yakuza.

There's a soft sigh of relief at the mention of her size, because he's absolutely right. That'll probably be easier to spot than a little noodle like hers, even if her color is rather striking.]

True, I didn't even think of that. May want to start after them now then, or we'll never catch up. She's full of so much energy now I don't know what to do with her...

[This is not at all like raising a dog or something.]

[For his part, black is just an incredibly rare coloring back home with noble connotations. But it does stand out pretty well during the daytime.]

Mm. Come on, perhaps Shima's cornered yours under a stall or something similarly helpful.

[He doesn't sound too worried, at least. He doubts his dragon would be tangling with less friendly creatures after her injury near when she first hatched, and he can only imagine that she's just being playful right now so the little black dragon shouldn't be in any actual danger.

And at least Saralegui's been here long enough to know how to cut through the crowd. Of course, his demeanor probably helps -- he's got that sort of regal bearing that people tend to make way for.]

I found that just letting Shima try hunting for herself helped to tire her out.

[The advice is tossed over his shoulder as they move, almost as an afterthought.]
tookforgranite: He asked us for tape. (This dude. Just lost. A finger.)

[personal profile] tookforgranite 2016-12-05 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
...hopefully.

[She sounds a tad bit worried about that, mostly because Shima is the larger dragon. Eibitsuki is definitely friendly enough, if not a tad shy, but she's small and mostly defenseless. But this guy doesn't sound worried, so she assumes things will be fine. If his dragon was one to attack, surely he'd be more insistent.

And Natsumi definitely doesn't mind following him as he cuts through the crowd.]

She's not really big enough for that yet I don't think...her teeth are just starting to come in, and she really only seems to like fish. I don't even know if she can swim.

[But maybe that's something to try. Maybe teaching her how to swim would wear her out...]

[Hunk wouldn't have noticed the little dragon except for the way others were stepping out of the way. He barely catches sigh of it, Shay looking down and watching it as well. Maybe if he hadn't turned to watch its intended path, he wouldn't have suddenly become a road block. There's a wince, and a cry of surprise, when he feels someone run into him.

Reaching out, he manages to keep them both on their feet. His own dragon squeaks in surprise, crawling her way up to his shoulder where she's less likely to be squished.]

Whoa there, you okay?
tookforgranite: I'm just vaguely wondering where I am. But not quite concerned enough to do anything about it. (This ceiling is unfamiliar to me...)

[personal profile] tookforgranite 2016-12-05 08:21 am (UTC)(link)
[She hadn't even seen him, eyes on a lady that'd been a little less friendly about her pushing passed than most of the others had been. Thankfully he's a little faster than she is because otherwise she would definitely have hit the ground.]

Thanks...other than a little winded I'm alright, yeah.

[This is way more exercise than she's gotten in a while.]

Sorry about her. I don't know what's gotten her so riled up.
lionroll: (05)

[personal profile] lionroll 2016-12-06 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
[A look of relief takes the place of concerned surprise. Hunk takes a quick look back over his shoulder where he saw the little dragon running, before returning his attention the girl in front of him. Shay meanwhile has kept her bright yellow-orange eyes on the stranger, curious, but also wary.]

I take it you mean that little dashing blur of black, huh? She sure seemed to be on a mission. Do you need any help catching her? [A pause.] Or, is that a rude thing to ask? Sorry, I'm kind of new, and not totally sure of proper protocol with other people's dragons.
